WITCH HOUSE
Witch house is a sub-genre of electronic music that began emerging in the late 2000s. Accidentally and jokingly named by Pictureplane's Travis Egedy, witch house draws inspiration from a number of sources, including chopped and screwed's remixing techniques, darkwave's gothic synths, and dream pop's dense, ethereal production. Some songs take on a booming, abrasive style while others maintain a hazy, mystical sound. Even with these differing approaches to the genre, common features of witch house include distorted vocals, warped samples, droning synthesizers, and lyrical themes inspired by horror films and the occult. |
