THE CURE PLAYLIST |
With a peppy post-punk sound that quickly evolved into a much darker discourse, The Cure helped set the tone for the goth subculture emerging in the early 1980s. Inspired by the experience of touring with Siouxsie and the Banshees, Robert Smith and the gang created overcast records that would prove pivotal for the gothic rock genre. Though they did experiment with lighter sounds through the years (their best known songs include "Friday I'm in Love" jangle pop and "Boys Don't Cry" new wave), the band's landmark gothic releases Pornography and Disintegration place them firmly at the forefront of dark music VIPs. |
